PSYCHOLOGY INTERVIEW
When I was first researching counseling psychology, I had to interview someone in that career field. When I found a very nice woman named Rachel, I got my answers from her. Below are the questions and answers I got from her help.
Q1. What college/university(s) did you go to to get your degrees?
I went to Muhlenberg College to get my BA in Psychology and The American School of Professional Psychology to get my MA in Clinical Psychology.
Q2. What kinds of things do I need to learn in order to be a Counseling Psychologist?
You need to learn a depth of information from how to appropriately and ethically work with clients to the different psychopathology you could be working with depending on the client.
Q3. When does your day start/end?
A typical day for me starts at 10:30am and ends at 7:30pm. However, my schedule changes throughout the week.
Q4. What challenges do you face daily?
A challenge I face daily is clients who don’t participate in their treatment and end up not coming to their scheduled appointment. It wastes my time and hurts clients who could be seen instead.
Q5. What is the best part about your job? What’s the worst?
The best part of my job is helping people learn to help themselves through their struggles. The worst is the potential of client suicide.
Q6. When did you know you wanted to be in this career field?
I was 14 when I decided I wanted to become a therapist.
Q7. If you could change one thing about this job, what would it be?
If I could change one thing about my job, it would be the number of clients I see.
Q8. Do you think this job will grow in the future? Basically, do you think it’ll become more popular?
I hope this job becomes more popular in the future as there is certainly a need for more therapists.
Q9. How long ago did you start working in this field?
I started working as a therapist in 2011.
Q10. What’s your advice for kids like me who are interested in this field but don’t know where to go?
My advice is to study hard in school and try taking your school’s psychology course if one is offered.
